Emily Wineburg – East Stroudsburg University (Soccer)
Major: Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: ESU, UNC Charlotte, Millersville
Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “East Stroudsburg was the college that fulfilled all that I was looking for. They have an excellent Health Sciences program and professors, it was the size I was looking for, and the coaches and players showed a genuine interest in me being a part of their team.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about playing in college my freshman year of high school. I knew I wanted to continue competing through college, so I visited colleges while travelling with my club team, FC Bucks ECNL, and attended ID clinics until I found the right fit for me.”
Coach Bob Crawford says: “Emily has been a four-year varsity player and a four-year starter. I’ve only been here two years, but the last two years she’s been a great player for me. She has a huge foot, she’s a very intelligent player, she moves the ball well, and she can probably score from 40-45 yards out with no issue. She plays center back, which is an extremely demanding position. You don’t get too much recognition, but Emily and my goalie anchored our defense and kept us in every game.
“She’s a great kid, always trying to do the right thing. She’s a three-sport athlete – she also plays basketball and lacrosse. She’s a great captain - she’s more of a quiet leader and speaks with her actions. She speaks when she needs to, and she’s a very good communicator and a good communicator between myself and the team. I think she’s going to go on and do great things.”
