On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, Neshaminy senior Lindsay Blum was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to play collegiate field hockey.
Lindsay Blum – Field Hockey (East Stroudsburg)
Major: Middle Level Education
Final list of colleges: East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg, Misericordia, Alvernia
Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “I chose ESU because I liked the campus and the way it had a small town feel. The girls on the hockey team seemed really nice and accepted me when I went for my overnight.
“Also, the coach was another reason I chose ESU because she seemed very determined and driven to push her players to be the best that they can be. This school is a good match for me.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey? “Since I was eight, I played on a competitive soccer team. In middle school, I transferred to field hockey as my main sport. I joined the middle school team and a Mystx Field Hockey Travel Team. The travel team helped me to improve my stick skills and opened up many tournament opportunities. In order to improve, I attended many camps that other girls on my club team were attending.
“Eventually, I was able to attend the National Field Hockey Festival in Arizona and the National Indoor Tournament in Virginia. I began to love field hockey so much that I was looking for more chances to play, and I signed up for the Futures Program with USA Field Hockey.
“In 10th grade, I moved from the middle school to the high school and set my goal to make the varsity team at Neshaminy. I became a varsity starter for three straight years and became the captain of our team in my senior year. Some of the seniors before me were planning to continue playing at the college level, and that’s when I decided I wanted the same.
“The reality of actually playing at the college level began when I began emailing coaches and attending overnight visits at several college campuses. This process took about a year. Field hockey is a huge part of my life, and I am thankful that I am getting the chance to play in college.”
Coach Caitlin Koczynski says: "Lindsay was a huge asset to the team this past season. She helped mold the team together from the backs to the forwards, and she owned the middle of the field. Lindsay always gave a 110 percent, and as a team captain, she was looked upon as a role model and team leader. I know she will have a tremendous career at ESU and wish her the best!"
About Lindsay:
Favorite food: ‘I don’t really have a favorite food. I like anything that tastes good. I have a really big sweet tooth, so if I had to pick, it would probably be something chocolatey.”
Favorite movie: The Notebook & Titantic
Favorite music: ‘I like any type of music, but my favorite would probably be country, hip hop and rock.’
