Eddie Bright-Bailey, Cheyney University (Football)

Major:  Criminal Justice

Final list of colleges:  Cheyney, West Chester, Wilkes, Lock Haven

Reasons for choosing Cheyney:  “When I went to visit Cheyney, I just felt like I’d be taken care of not only football-wise but academic-wise, and that was a really big thing for me. It was back and forth at my house because my dad is a Lock Haven alumni, and my mom is a Cheyney alumni. Cheyney just felt right.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football?  “This year was only my second year of playing football, so I was a first-year starter. After the season, coach asked me, ‘Are you interested in playing college football?’ I really wasn’t sure, but I said, ‘I’ll give it a shot.’ I started visiting schools, and it just took off from there. Honestly, I didn’t think I was big enough or good enough to play college football, let alone D-2.”

Coach Jeff Cappa says:  “Eddie is a first-year starter. However, he was successful because he became an outstanding worker in our offseason, and because of his dedication and commitment to the program and to our team in the offseason, he was able to not only earn himself a starting position, he also was chosen to be one of our captains. Eddie is a tremendous kid, he has a great personality, and he was really a huge heartbeat of our team, emotionally and leadership-wise and by his work ethic in the weight room. Eddie is a tremendous athlete. He could play offense or defense in college. He also has great support for our program at home, and that’s a huge piece for each of these kids. That allows us to push these kids a little bit harder above what they think they can do.”
