Courtney Brown – East Stroudsburg University (Basketball)

Major:  Exercise Science

Final list of colleges:  East Stroudsburg, Widener, Kutztown, West Chester

Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg:  “When I went on my official visit, all the girls were just really nice. I felt like I already knew them. It was just home to me. I had a good experience there. The coach was nice, and everyone was welcoming. It was just a good vibe. I had a good feeling about ESU.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball? “I also play softball, so in my sophomore year, I had to pick a sport. I decided to pick basketball. I like basketball because it’s a lot more intense. I just love the game. I only played one year of AAU, so I had to make up some work.”

Council Rock South coach Monica Stolic says:  “Courtney was always a two-sport athlete, and softball was her main sport. In her sophomore year, she had a very good year in basketball, and teams were actually looking at her. They would come to see Alex Wheatley, and people kept asking me about Courtney. She made second team all-league as a sophomore, and at the beginning of her junior year, I sat down with her parents. They said, ‘What does she need to do?’ I said, ‘She really needs to play AAU.’ She played for Steve Chapman and Fencor, and she has really improved even from last year to this year. She’s been working on her game a lot. She’s always been a pretty good shooter, and now she’s starting to do other things. She rebounds, she’ll attack the basket and pull up, and she’s more versatile.”

Fencor AAU coach Steve Chapman says:  "She's a terrific shooter with a great touch and good range, and she's becoming a better scorer where she can shoot when she's guarded and create her own shot. She really, really worked hard to try to do everything we were doing even though the other kids had been with us a while longer. She fit in very well with the other kids, worked as hard as they did and picked right up on their approach and attitude. She improved tremendously  defensively. She was great to coach. I wish I'd had her longer."
