CB East Quartet Commits to Play Collegiate Field Hockey

On Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, CB East seniors Sophia Parker, Paige Hussie, Kiera Lamb & Olivia Nolan were recognized for committing to continue their field hockey careers at the collegiate level.

“The seniors meant everything to the program,” East coach Emma Rosenthal said. “They meant everything to the team. I think everyone looked up to them every single day. These four especially brought a lot on the field and off the field. All four of them are so genuine, and they’re really great people, and that means a lot.”

Paige Hussie – Quinnipiac University (Field Hockey)

Major: Physical Therapy/ Health Sciences

Final list of colleges:  Quinnipiac, Richmond, Lafayette

Reasons for choosing Quinnipiac: “Definitely the academics with a really good focus on health sciences and the mix of being able to play Division 1 field hockey.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “Seeing my coaches and also the seniors committing to schools when I was a freshman. When I started playing on the varsity team, that’s when I knew I wanted to play in college.”

Coach Emma Rosenthal says: “Paige Hussie played defensive mid this year but was absolutely all over the field. She’s somebody who would come to me after practice and say, ‘I don’t really like the way this worked…’ She’s a very honest player, open communication and an incredible captain and an incredible leader. She really brought the team together bonding-wise. She’s not afraid to speak up, and I think she has one of the best stick skills in the league. She’s going to do excellent next year at Quinnipiac.”

Kiera Lamb – University of Scranton (Field Hockey)

Major: Nursing

Final list of colleges:  Scranton, West Chester, TCNJ

Reasons for choosing Scranton:  “I just loved the campus and the family feel that the campus had and all the players and everyone that I met there. I’ve never heard a bad thing about Scranton.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I started played hockey in seventh grade just to meet new friends, and I just fell in love with it. I used to play soccer, so I stopped playing soccer to play field hockey in high school, and I just loved everything about it.”

Coach Emma Rosenthal says: “Kiera Lamb is strong physically and mentally. She gets a fire in her eyes, and you can see it on the field when she gets angry. She is just an absolute force to be reckoned with, and I’m so happy she’s playing in college next year. She’s somebody we really looked to in the defensive unit, especially since she had three players around her who did not start or play varsity last year, so she was somebody we looked for to get us going. I’m extremely proud of everything she accomplished. She had 18 defensive saves this season, which is insane.”

Favorite food:  Bagels

Favorite TV show:  Grey’s Anatomy

Favorite music:  Pop

Olivia Nolan – University of Vermont (Field Hockey)

Major: Microbiology

Final list of colleges:  Vermont, ODU, Richmond

Reasons for choosing Vermont: “I chose Vermont, not only academically but athletically as well. I just liked the competitive spirit.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I think around ninth grade when I came to high school and I saw all the other seniors committing, I knew I wanted to do the same.”

Coach Emma Rosenthal says: “Olivia is a quiet force on the field. Little small movements with her stickwork go such a long way. She is absolutely a play starter, a fire maker. The underclassmen really look up to her as a friend and as an incredible teammate. Olivia is somebody who will always put the team above herself. Senior Day specifically, Sophia (Parker) and Olivia both volunteered not to start so that some of their fellow seniors that never started could start, and that says a lot about their character. I’m really proud of her. I think she’s going to do great at Vermont.”

Favorite TV show: The Office

Sophia Parker – University of Louisville (Field Hockey)

Major: Biology

Final list of colleges:  Louisville, Syracuse, St. Joseph’s

Reasons for choosing Louisville: “I was really attracted to the competitiveness of the program. They have a very, very strong coaching staff that was aligned with my own personal goals and also with the goals of student athletes.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I began playing DAA locally with school friends. The opportunity to play club came about in sixth grade. Seeing teammates excel and commit to the next level – I started thinking this is a real opportunity for me, and I took advantage of the opportunities that I was fortunate enough to have.”

Coach Emma Rosenthal says: “Sophia Parker is an absolute force to be reckoned with. She’s going to the University of Louisville. I’m very proud of everything she has accomplished. The other coaches just knew it was dangerous when Sophia got the ball – she could take it up the field herself. I think of the CB West game when she scored the goal to take us into overtime and then in overtime took the ball all the way up the field herself and scored. She’s not just a good player, she’s a nice person.
