On Thursday Feb. 23, 2023, Central Bucks East seniors Chris Funston, Adrien Widdows & Ethan Greenlee were recognized for committing to play collegiate lacrosse.
Chris Funston – Stockton University (Lacrosse)
Major: Marine Biology
Final list of schools: Stockton, Virginia Wesleyan, Belmont Abbey
Reasons for choosing Stockton: “The location, the team’s really good and also the coach. It just seemed like a really good fit for me there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “Pretty much as soon as I started playing, I knew that it was probably going to be a big part of my life. I’ve been playing since second grade, so it’s been a while.”
Coach Bruce Garcia says: “Chris Funston has the fire in his heart to help teams win. Chris was one of our captains, and he is perpetually the encapsulation of what I think a captain should be. I wish he was not leaving our program this year. I speak for both the team and the coaches when I say that we all wish Chris the best at Stockton University next year.”

Ethan Greenlee – Sacred Heart University (Lacrosse)
Major: Athletic Training & Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: Sacred Heart, Salisbury, Muhlenberg
Reasons for choosing Sacred Heart: “Just the school and the atmosphere. When I talked to people on the team, they said it was some of the greatest experiences that they had in a while, and I knew some of the kids there that went to East, and they really enjoyed it.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “In the offseason of my junior year, I really started to kick it in. I started noticing I’d be able to run with some of the better kids, so I was like – maybe I could actually do something with this now.”
Coach Bruce Garcia says: “Ethan Greenlee has the athletic ability that belies his age. Ethan is the perfect description of what kind of players our lacrosse program at East is made up of. He is an athlete that is energetic which is the best word to describe an athlete who plays lacrosse at East. The players were correct in electing Ethan a team captain this year. We all wish him the best at Sacred Heart University next year.”

Adrien Widdows – Arcadia University (Lacrosse)
Major: Physician’s Assistant/Biology
Final list of colleges: Arcadia, Susquehanna, Fairleigh Dickinson
Reasons for choosing Arcadia: “The head coach was really positive. When I went on my overnight, the team was really nice, and the campus in general is really beautiful.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “In seventh grade, I played up on the eighth grade team, and I played a lot, so I thought – I’m pretty good at this, and I can probably play in college if I put myself towards it.”
Coach Bruce Garcia says: “Adrien Widdows is a huge part of what makes East lacrosse a great place to play and grow. He is energetic, determined, dedicated and a hard worker. I have seen Adrien play for over eight years and have watched him grow into the man, the athlete he has become. We all wish him the best at Arcadia University next year.”
