CB East's Cummiskey to Play Basketball at Catholic University

On Monday, May 20, 2024, Central Bucks East senior Jacob Cummiskey was recognized for committing to continue his basketball career at The Catholic University of America.

Jacob Cummiskey – Catholic University (Basketball)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges: Catholic, Millersville, Jefferson, Holy Family, Randolph Macon, Babson, Lafayette, Penn

Reasons for choosing Catholic: “It was the first school I ever truly visited. I liked the campus a lot – the buildings were majestic looking, and also, it was right next to DC, so I liked that I could have my campus life and then I could literally walk outside, and DC is right there.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level?  “I definitely always wanted to play college basketball since first grade or second grade. My whole life is pretty much basketball. If I’m not hanging out with friends or doing schoolwork, I’m playing basketball. This is something I’ve always wanted to do. For it to be real, I’m proud of myself.”

Coach Erik Henrysen says: “Jake got started right away as a freshman, and his career kicked off with a bang – going into the (district) playoffs with two buzzer beaters in back-to-back games to advance us. His career never really looked back. He’s been the cornerstone of our basketball program for four years. He’s been central to all of our success, and it has been the most successful stretch in the basketball program’s history. He was responsible for four division championships in a row, and his name will go on the banner as the second all-time leading scorer that East has ever seen with 1,325 career points. He’s been our team leader. He led us in pretty much every statistical category, or if not, he was next in line. He’s made every all-area team, and one of the things you have to look at is not only is the player a match for the college, but is the college a match for the player. Every now and then a college comes along, and they hit the lottery, and I think Catholic University really hit the lottery with Jake. It’s a steal, and he’s going to have a career there much like he’s had here.”
