CB East's Funston to Play Softball at the College of Staten Island

On Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, Central Bucks East senior Amelia Funston was recognized for committing to continue her softball career at the College of Staten Island.

Amelia Funston – College of Staten Island (Softball)

Major:  Psychology with a minor in Sports Management

Reasons for choosing Staten Island:  “It just felt like home. A local girl from one of the other high schools is actually going there with me. It just seems like a great fit as a player and also how far it was away from home.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to play collegiate level softball.”

Coach Karl Knapp says:  “Amelia will be a four-year varsity letter winner at the conclusion of our season this year. She’s been an absolute asset to our team. She lives and breathes softball, and she’s one of the hardest workers on the team, always looking to improve her skills. She’s been an outstanding player for us, and she’s come through as a leader this year and got us involved in a weight program so we can get stronger and perform better on the field. She’s been our catcher for the last three years, and she’s one of the best catchers in the league. She was first team all-league last year, and it was well deserved. She had no errors behind the plate the entire season. She batted in our four spot and was one of our top three hitters on the team with a .348 batting average. She’s someone we really depend on to come through and drive in runs. She was our leading home run hitter with five home runs, and she’s just an all-around great kid.

“As a leader, she looks to help other girls.  She’s highly dedicated. She’s someone the younger players look up to, she gives them a role model, she gives them motivation to achieve and get better by watching somebody like her who works hard, takes the game seriously but has fun. She’s just a great asset and the type of person that everybody would want on their team. She’s one of those kids that comes along rarely in your program. She’s just an extra special person that you are fortunate to have in your program. She’ll be sorely missed and hard to replace next year, not only from a leadership standpoint but for her skill level in both hitting and fielding her position. I can’t say enough good things about Amelia.”
