On Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, Central Bucks East senior Maggie Funston was recognized for committing to continue her softball career at Rowan University.
Maggie Funston – Rowan University (Softball)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Rowan, Kutztown, Stockton, Albany, Gettysburg
Reasons for choosing Rowan: “It’s one of the top D3s in the country, and as an athlete, I want to compete for a national title, so that is what Rowan is going to let me do.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “Last summer as a junior, that’s the biggest summer as an athlete, but I think actually having interest from big schools really made me think – ‘Oh, I can do this.’”
Coach Karl Knapp says: “Maggie is one of the leaders of our team. She’s a senior captain this year, she was a junior captain last year. She’s always shown great leadership abilities. She gets our team going in the right direction for games and practices, keeping people together. We have always appreciated her input. She has a high softball IQ. We’ve had situations during the year where she’s come forth and given us her opinion, which is much appreciated and valued.
“Maggie doesn’t like to lose. Anybody that’s ever seen her in the postgame talks knows she’s not happy when she loses. She’s been one of the best hitters on our team over the years. Last year, she was our second best hitter and missed out on the batting championship by a couple of points. She’s always come through in close situations for us. She’s been an invaluable asset to our team, and we’re so glad to have her on the team. Maggie, I wish you the best of luck. Have a great senior year and a great four years at Rowan.”
