On Monday May 20, 2024, Central Bucks East seniors Reagan McCullough & Luke Wilson were recognized for committing to continue their wrestling careers at the collegiate level.
Reagan McCullough – Bellarmine University (Wrestling)
Major: Business/5-year MBA program
Final list of colleges: Bellarmine, Long Island, NYU
Reasons for choosing Bellarmine: “The other schools that I really liked – when I went on the visits there, I could tell there were things about them I liked, but when I went to Bellarmine, everything just felt right. I really liked the city of Louisville, but other than that, the school itself – I felt at home. Getting to know the coaching staff, it really felt like they actually believed in me, and I can tell just with the program they’re building there’s a really strong culture, so all around, I felt that was the place I had the best opportunity to accomplish my goals.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in wrestling at the collegiate level? “I actually started playing football and wrestling in seventh grade – I started both in middle school. Most of the time while I was growing up, I wanted to play football in college. It was around sophomore or junior year when I started to turn the corner in wrestling a little more. It was 50-50 – I enjoyed them. This summer, I had surgery on my knee, so I missed pretty much my entire football season, and I just wanted to go all in on wrestling. I felt like it was kind of turning into my thing, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do for the next four years.”
Coach Dave Scarpill says: “Reagan is in the super minority because he didn’t start wrestling until seventh grade. The overwhelming majority – if not all – college wrestlers start in early elementary school. Even when he got here as a freshman – and Reagan will agree, he was terrible. He didn’t learn a thing in seventh or eighth grade, and that’s okay. He only sniffed the varsity mat four times as a freshman, and he got hammered all four times. But to go from that kind of JV wrestler as a freshman to winning 35 matches in a season as a senior and qualifying for the state tournament is simply astounding. It just doesn’t happen. That’s amazing, and you don’t go from being what Reagan was to what he has become without being the hardest worker in and out of the wrestling room. He has left an incredible mark on his younger teammates and his coaches, and we wish him the best of luck at Bellarmine University.”

Luke Wilson – Roanoke College (Wrestling)
Major: Elementary Education
Final list of colleges: Roanoke, Gardner-Webb, King’s, Wilkes
Reasons for choosing Roanoke: “The environment was really nice. I liked the campus a lot. They have really good athletics, and I have a lot of faith in the future of their wrestling program.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in wrestling at the collegiate level? “I wasn’t too sure coming into my senior year, but then I got injured and missed my senior year, so that really made me want to pursue it in college. I only got two matches in this year, so I was still hungry for more after that.”
Coach Dave Scarpill says: “Unlike Reagan, Luke started wrestling when he was basically in diapers. His dad, Howard, wouldn’t have it any other way. (Howard) was a very good wrestler, but his son Evan was even better than him. Luke set out to make his own mark, and he did so by becoming only the second freshman in all of CB East’s 55-year history to qualify for the regional tournament as a freshman, which is outstanding. He later won 27 matches as a junior. His senior year he was hellbent on making it a season for the ages until a devastating knee injury occurred in just his second match of the season, which he still powered through and won. I know Luke well enough that he cannot accept his career ending like that, so I know that this will be the driving factor in his future successes at Roanoke College.”
