CB East's Miksa to Swim at Kutztown Universtiy

On Monday, May 20, 2024, Central Bucks East senior Theo Miksa was recognized for committing to continue his swimming career at Kutztown University.

Theo Miksa – Kutztown University (Swimming)

Major:  Finance & Supply Chain Management

Final list of colleges: Kutztown, Mary Washington, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Wilkes

Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “It was a number of things. First of all, academics. They had the major of Finance and Supply Chain Management, which is what I want to study, so that was really important to me to make sure I picked a school where there was a major I would enjoy studying. Also, coach (Tim) Flannery is super supportive and was always reaching out. You could tell he was really interested in swimming as a sport and also showed interest in me which I really appreciated, so the combination of those two things really helped me make my decision.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level? “I have two older siblings, and both of them swim in college. I thought it would be really cool if I could also get up there with them and swim collegiately in the hopes I could swim with one of them at the college level because we used to swim high school together. That’s what really made me think I want to swim in college.”

Coach Roberta Lichter says: “Theo is a remarkable young man who has achieved great success in and out of the pool. He’s a true student-athlete that shows what we have to offer here at CB East and also as a district. Theo is a talented swimmer who has contributed to our team as a four-year letter recipient and most recently a team captain. This was my first year as the coach, and I cannot express my appreciation for what a wonderful help and leader Theo was for the team. He won the coach’s award as the most dedicated and committed swimmer. I think he only missed one morning practice, and while most (athletes)  get to sleep in, swimmers are up at about 4:30 in the morning, and they are here before five. We are in the water swimming, then they go off to school, and then they are swimming again in the afternoons, so his commitment is amazing. He also continues to excel as a year-round swimmer at the Y led by John Foff.
“His GPA clearly shows that he’s committed to all of his intellectual pursuits and that has earned him a top spot amongst all of his fellow students. Theo’s signing of a letter of intent to compete at the collegiate level is the culmination of years of hard work and devotion, but it’s not an end. It’s a new beginning and a testament to the transformative power of sports and education. As Theo embarks on the next chapter of his life, he carries with him an unwavering support and admiration from his family, his friends, his coaches and the entire school community. We have witnessed firsthand his competitive spirit, his enthusiasm and his determination to succeed, and in the years to come, we have no doubt he will continue to shine both in and out of the pool as well as the classroom. He will represent his university with honor and distinction, I have no doubt, and he will serve as a role model for his fellow athletes and those who come in future generations. Know that we, your teammates, your coaches, and your friends, wish you all the best in your future endeavors. It has truly been a pleasure to watch Theo grow into the young man he is today.”
