Patrick Sheehan – Penn State University (Golf)
Major: Business/Finance
Final list of colleges: Penn State, Campbell
Reasons for choosing Penn State: “Penn State came in late. I visited two weeks before I actually committed the end of August. There were a couple of schools around here that I was looking at, and I just didn’t think it was a good fit for me. Penn State came in, and I think I’m the 11th member of my family to go to Penn State. My mom went to Penn State, so we’ve always been a Penn State family. It just fit. I knew right when they offered me that I wanted to go there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in golf at the collegiate level? “I played mostly every sport, and golf just became my passion. I liked it more than anything. I didn’t take it too seriously a couple of years ago, but then I realized that I actually might be able to do something with it. I started practicing a lot more, and I started shooting good numbers. I looked at some college scores, and I realized I might be able to play in college at a pretty high level. That kind of drove me to get better and play at that Division I level.”
Coach Matt Wolf says: “What has stood out about Patrick Sheehan during his career as a CB East golfer is his perseverance. He has encountered a lot of challenges in his varsity career with us, and he’s overcome all of them. We’re very proud of his accomplishments. Coming in third place in states this past season was a great accomplishment for him and our program, and also winning the District One championship was a phenomenal achievement that we’re all really proud of. We wish Patrick good luck in the future at Penn State.”
Assistant coach Mark Rubino says: “Patrick Sheehan is not only one of the most talented and accomplished golfers to ever play at CB East, more importantly, he is a gentleman, a great student, a wonderful young man, and I look forward to following his progress not only at Penn State - which should feel fortunate to have him - but beyond. It’s been a privilege being associated with him and his family.”
