Nick Rivera – Cairn University (Basketball)

Major: Business

Final list of colleges:  Cairn, South Carolina, Liberty

Reasons for choosing Cairn:  “(The opportunity to play) basketball definitely. I was debating whether I wanted to play basketball or not, and I did, so I decided to go to Cairn. It’s a Christian university, and I’m a Christian so that’s pretty important to me.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “Coming into the season, I didn’t know where I was at or how valuable I was to the team. I ended up being a starter, so it made me more passionate and more confident in myself playing basketball.”

Coach Erik Henrysen says:  “Nick has really been awesome to coach. He started off a little bit slow in his freshman and sophomore year just with his confidence level and that ability to shake off the previous play. What we found with Nick is he grew into not only a confident basketball player and a starter as a senior but also as a leader, and he did it by example. Nick is kind of a combination of his brothers Christian and Jesse who are both at Cairn. It’s just been awesome to see him develop and grow as a player and move on to Cairn University where he will have an opportunity to play with both Jesse and Christian at what I guess is now called Rivera University. I’m proud of Nick. We owe a lot to Nick and wish him the very best because he deserves it. Nick has been awesome for us as a program. One of the things we talk to all of our guys about is that their approach and what they’ve accomplished over the last four years is really going to pay off for us for years to come.”
