On Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, Central Bucks East senior Connor Thurston was recognized for committing to continue his diving career at Bucknell University.
Connor Thurston – Bucknell University (Diving)
Major: Environmental Science
Final list of colleges: Bucknell, La Salle, Drexel, Boston University, Boston College
Reasons for choosing Bucknell: “The program was a really good fit for me. The coach is a big part of diving, so having a really good coach – I’ve heard really good things about him.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in diving at the collegiate level? “Junior year after states was when I figured out I had a special niche for this.”
Coach Fred Dunn says: “Divers are usually short – physics is kinder to short people, and Connor is 6-3, which is very rare for a diver, but Connor makes up for it by getting huge height off the diving board. He rides the board – as we diving coaches like to say – he rides the board a ton. He’s very good in the air, he’s got great form. He just surprises everybody because he’s so good, and he’s so long. I just love it when the judges are sitting along the pool, and they have to move their heads when Connor goes so high in the air – they can’t just move their eyes. I’ve been coaching him since he was 10, and he’s always been very determined. He’s a very good practicer, he’s a very hard worker, and I’m going to miss the kid.”
