On Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, Central Bucks South seniors Brooke Commins, Brooke Hall & Bella Smouse were recognized for committing to compete in soccer at the collegiate level.
Brooke Commins – Lafayette College (Soccer)
Major: Bioengineering
Final list of colleges: Lafayette, Stevens Institute of Technology, Case Western
Reasons for choosing Lafayette: “It was mainly the academics because they’re an engineering school now. I liked the location because it’s close to home, and overall, I liked the girls on the team and the coaches.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing soccer for the majority of my life, so I feel like that was kind of my end goal. I started my college recruitment process probably around sophomore year of high school, so that’s when I started taking it seriously.”
Coach Gabbie Nolan says: “Brooke is a player who is dedicated to the sport of soccer. She played several positions for us this season. Her future is so bright, and she’s truly earned the opportunity to play at the next level.”
About Brooke:
Favorite food: Penne a la vodka
Favorite movie: Little Women
Favorite artist: The Neighborhood
Brooke Hall – St. Mary’s College of Maryland (Soccer)
Major: Biology & Marine Science
Final list of colleges: St Mary’s of Maryland, Virginia Wesleyan, Frostburg State
Reasons for choosing St. Mary’s: “The size of the campus, and it’s so beautiful. I love the coach and the team. It was just such a positive environment. I knew it was the right place for me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I always had an idea that I wanted to play. It was just what type of school and division that made me make the decision. I knew St. Mary’s had everything that I wanted.”
Coach Gabbie Nolan says: “Brooke is a hard worker that has done so much for our program by leading the team as captain this year. She impacted every single game in a positive manner. Her teammates and coaches could rely on her to play as hard as she could and play with composure on the field. She is moving on to great things and has a very bright future ahead of her.”
About Brooke:
Favorite food: Sushi
Favorite movie: Step Brothers
Favorite music: Country
Bella Smouse – Ursinus College (Soccer)
Major: Neuroscience
Reasons for choosing Ursinus: “I really only pursued Ursinus because of their science program. I loved the campus, I loved the area, and they had a great soccer team, so it really drew me towards Ursinus.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I decided this summer. I just started going to some ID camps. I decided to take the process more seriously, and I realized I want to keep playing soccer.”
Warrington United U19 coach Dave Steinbach says: “As a player, Bella is hardworking, committed, courageous, and best of all, she’s a great teammate. I have many accolades that could describe her play, but I love the fact that she smiles on the field. It breeds confidence, it provides energy to the team, and I know it’s where she belongs because of that smile. We compete at a high level, and she commands the minutes that I give her - which is a lot. As a person, she is open, likes to have fun and is easy to talk to and carry a conversation. She takes constructive criticism well and works hard to please the coaching staff and do well for her teammates.”
About Bella:
Favorite food: Bananas
Favorite movie: The Hunger Games
Favorite artist: Taylor Swift
