On Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, Central Bucks South seniors Corey Bethel, Ryan Gross and Shane Landue were recognized for committing to play collegiate soccer.
Corey Bethel, Drew University (Soccer)
Major: Business/Undecided
Reasons for choosing Drew: “When I took my tour of the campus, it was secluded but also big enough and had plenty of options on campus. I liked the soccer field, the coach. I met a couple of the guys.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “My entire life I planned on playing, and once I got into ninth and 10th grade, the interest really picked up.”
Coach Joe Coscia says: “Corey’s CV for soccer is pretty self-explanatory. I coached all three Bethels, and Corey was, by far, the strongest soccer player. Not just because he was technically talented, but he really understood the game to a different level, definitely somebody well beyond his years. He was a great asset to our team, and I wish all the best at Drew University.”
About Corey:
Favorite food: Steak
Favorite TV show: The Office
Favorite music: Country
Ryan Gross – Lehigh University (Soccer)
Major: Psychology
Final list of colleges: Lehigh, Drexel, Villanova, Colgate, Northeastern
Reasons for choosing Lehigh: “Just the family setting it had. Everyone there was really nice, and it just felt like home. All the coaches, all the players – they all got along well, and the community seemed like it had a good bond.”
What was the progression that led you to playing soccer at the collegiate level? “I always knew from a young age that I wanted to play college soccer. I made the jump from my local township team to a highly competitive club, and from then on, I just kept working and kind of figured that college soccer was going to be in my future, so I wanted to see how far I could go.”
Coach Joe Coscia says: “Ryan Gross is an absolute physical specimen. The kid works so hard to make sure that he is at peak fitness. He’s a great on-field communicator, and as he matures and continues to play more at a high level, he has a lot of potential.”
About Ryan:
Favorite food: Mac ‘n Cheese
Favorite movie: Back to the Future
Favorite music: Hip Hop
Shane Landue – Alvernia University (Soccer)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: Alvernia, Widener, Stevenson
Reasons for choosing Alvernia: “I saw the opportunity to continue my academics and athletics with Alvernia. I liked the business program they offer and the soccer program.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I’ve been training with my club team. I’ve had the goal to play in college since I was in middle school.”
Coach Joe Coscia says: “First and foremost, Shane is just an absolutely wonderful kid, one of the most polite and respectful young men I’ve ever gotten a chance to work with. He’s a great player, a true team player. He really doesn’t do anything for personal glory or crazy statistics. He puts in the work that the team needs, and in his years starting on varsity, really the only player that might have one-upped him was (Carter) Houlihan from North Penn a couple years ago. Josh (Jones) didn’t attack the right side of our field last year in the three games that we played them. I know they play on the club team together, and Josh knew that wasn’t our weak point. That’s a testament to Shane locking it down.”
About Shane:
Favorite food: Pizza
Favorite TV show: The Office
Favorite artist: Bryson Tiller
