On Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, Central Bucks South senior Alex Dietz was recognized for committing to continue his basketball career at Moravian College. Check back for photos of the event.
Alex Dietz – Moravian College (Basketball)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: Moravian, Misericordia, University of Scranton, Widener, Susquehanna
Reasons for choosing Moravian: “Just the overall feel I got from the campus and going to all the basketball games – it was definitely a good fit for me basketball-wise and also academic-wise. It’s only an hour away, so I liked that, and it’s a smaller campus.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “It was always a goal to play in college, and I worked hard to get here. My junior year and summer going into senior year during my AAU season – coaches were coming to watch me, I was contacting coaches, and they were contacting me. That’s when it started heating up, and during the season, they would come watch games.”
Coach Jason Campbell says: “There are a lot of things that stand out about Alex. I think it starts with his character and who he is. He’s a genuine kid with an outstanding demeanor as far as how he played the game – his body language. You could never tell if something got him frustrated or upset even when he got fouled and there were no calls that he was looking for. He was very well spoken and soft spoken when he talked with officials, which really any of us as adults would admire. I know as a coach sometimes I struggle with the way my tone is, and Alex’s tone is very low level, polite, and it gains everyone’s respect.
“It’s the same way he did it with his teammates too. His leadership is incredible, and his work ethic is impeccable. The kid worked out all the time. I know he worked out a lot of times with his teammates and brought people under his wing or with his father. He and his dad worked out a lot – his dad was a great basketball player as well. He probably goes out as one of one of our top players of all time because of the all around body of work that he’s done. He was two-time first team all-league, and he’s only the third person to do that in our school history for basketball.
“He’s just an incredible kid in terms of what he brought every day to practice and games. He always led by example. I’m going to miss him big time. You can never replace a player like that. I’ve only had a few players similar to him as far as what he brought every day and his character and personality. He’s going to thrive so much at the next level. Moravian is getting a steal with him because I know how much time he puts into it. This year he started committing more time in the weight room. I can only imagine as his body gets bigger and stronger what he’s going to be able to do on the floor. It’s going to be impressive.”
