CB South's Hines & Tumasz to Play Collegiate Softball

On Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, Central Bucks South seniors Kaitlyn Hines and Tara Tumasz were recognized for committing to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level. Check back for photos of the event.

Kaitlyn Hines – Rowan University (Softball)

Major:  Mechanical Engineering

Final list of colleges:  Rowan, Widener, TCNJ, Stevens Institute of Technology

Reasons for choosing Rowan:  “I was looking mainly for academics, and Rowan has a fantastic engineering program and a brand new building. Also, I went and met the coach, and she is a great person. She’s been there forever, and they’ve had great success, and she really knows what she’s talking about.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I was focused mainly on schooling because I know I can’t have a career in softball even though I’d like to. I’ve been playing for 14 years – I started when I was four, I started travel when I was nine, and I couldn’t let it go. I was looking at really high academic schools, but I thought – I don’t need to go them. I want to play softball, and I want to learn. It develops you as a better player and a better person. Softball’s really made me who I am.”

Coach Kevin Rosini says:  “When you talk about Katie Hines, you’re talking about a four-year varsity player at second base. She can hit, she can hit with power, she has good range in the field. She’s a leader, and she’s always been that way since day one. She’s been playing on varsity since her freshman year for a team that’s been winning. I trust her more than most. She’s been with me since my first day, and she’s high quality.”

Tara Tumasz – Alvernia University (Softball)

Major:  Nursing

Final list of colleges:  Alvernia, Arcadia, Moravian, Hood

Reasons for choosing Alvernia:  “Mainly the location – I knew I didn’t want to be too far, but I didn’t want to be too close, and I loved the coach.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I started to play softball when I was five. I had this one coach all my years when I was in rec ball. He was just so much fun and I kept with it. Then I started playing travel, and it just kept going from there.”

Coach Kevin Rosini says:  “Tara started playing varsity her sophomore year and made an impact right away and helped us win the district championship. She plays both the corners in the field, she hits with power, and she’s only had one error in two years, which is amazing. She has made herself into a quality varsity and college player. They both have made big impacts on the program, and I’ve been very happy to have them both on my team.”
