Joe Martino – West Chester University (Baseball)

Major:  Undecided but possibly Kinesiology

Reasons for choosing West Chester:  “It was kind of funny because they were actually at the top of my list, and I only received an offer to go to a couple of other D-III schools, and then West Chester gave me an offer and I just ended the process there.

“West Chester is a two-time national champion, so they have a good baseball program, that’s one thing. It’s not too far from home, but it’s far enough, that’s the other thing.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “I knew I wanted to play in college, but I didn’t know I’d be this serious about it.  The state championship run last year for South – I feel like that really gave me a lot of confidence. A lot of thanks to coach (Brian) Klumpp, who really helped bring my game out.”

Coach Brian Klumpp says:  “Joe was a key pitcher for us last year. He did a great job coming out of the bullpen, and he started one or two games for us. He got three wins on the year, and he came in and had huge saves for us in the state playoffs. He was a key arm we went to whenever we needed big outs late in the game. Joe was a great team player. He became a leader towards the end of the year. When we had some injuries in the middle of the season, he stepped up and took some roles in the infield. I think Joe will be a key contributor this year for the CB South team, probably in the infield as well as on the mound. Joe will have a very good career at West Chester. His work ethic is top notch. He loves getting in the weight room and just loves taking his game to the next level.”
