On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Central Bucks West senior Tyler Meinel was recognized for committing to continue his basketball career at Holy Family University.
Tyler Meinel – Holy Family University (Basketball)
Major: Business/Accounting
Final list of colleges: Holy Family, Susquehanna, DeSales, East Stroudsburg
Reasons for choosing Holy Family: “It’s close to home, it’s a very nice campus, and it had exactly what I was looking for with coaches. The team was very nice and kind, and they have a pretty good track record of basketball success.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “I have always known I wanted to play in college since I was younger. I love basketball – I’ve been playing since I was probably four, and it really came to fruition with my sophomore year. I had a pretty breakout sophomore year, and I made first team all-league, and I just continued to progress throughout my high school career and got even better my senior year and was fortunate enough to get an offer.”
Coach Louis Ditri says: “Tyler was one of the best players to come through CB South in its history. A three-year starter, he was a threat to score in any fashion, had one of the best spin moves I ever seen on the court, he was a terrific passer, a great rebounder and loved to jump passing lanes on defense.
“Coming into his senior year, Tyler knew he would have to lead us, and more importantly, that other teams would focus on him when we played. That didn't bother Tyler. He embraced it. He put the work in during the offseason and season to help him overcome any obstacles. The hard work paid off as he had a successful season.
“Tyler's shoes will be tough to fill. Players like him don't come around that often. Holy Family is receiving a great player.”
