CB West Foursome to Play Collegiate Lacrosse

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Central Bucks West seniors Aedan Donnelly, Hunter Reed, James Rutenberg & Alex Greenspan were recognized for committing to compete in collegiate sports. Black Bear Lacrosse Club sponsors boys/girls lacrosse.

Aedan Donnelly – Holy Family University (Lacrosse)
Major:
Business
Reasons for choosing Holy Family: “My brother is there right now, and I went for a visit, and it felt like where I needed to be. The team – they all seem like great guys. It’s where I want to be.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “Early on, I just wanted to play some sport in college – either lacrosse of football, and it came down to lacrosse.”
Coach Matt Coverdale:  “Aedan Donnelly is a hard-nosed, aggressive defender. He’s versatile, somewhat of a Swiss army knife in that he played a lot of roles for us – offensive middie, defensive middie, and he played long pole for us, close defense as well as an occasional LSM. He has a physical way to play, and it’s the only way he knows how to play, which is full tilt in everything that he does when he gets out on the field.”
About Aedan:
Favorite food:
Seafood/Crab legs
Favorite TV show: Game of Thrones
Favorite music: Pop

Alex Greenspan – Vassar College (Lacrosse)
Major:
Biochemistry
Final list of colleges: Vassar, Ohio Wesleyan, Middlebury
Reasons for choosing Vassar: “I visited the campus before I even talked to the coach because it was on my short list of schools I wanted to go to academically. The coach reached out after camp. I just had a really good dialogue with him. I went up for a visit, and I loved it. It just felt like home.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing lacrosse for 13 years – I started in kindergarten, and I figured I put all this work in, and I might as well see it out and have it help me get into a school.”
Coach Matt Coverdale: “Alex is a great young man. He was one of our captains. He’s smart in the classroom, he’s smart on the lacrosse field. He has incredible balance to his game. He’s the first ever player in CB West history to have over 100 career goals and 100 career assists. He graduates not only as first team all-league at the attack position in the Suburban One League but also as the assist career leader at Central Bucks West. He’s quite accomplished, and his smarts match his skills on the field.”
About Alex:
Favorite food:
Prime Rib
Favorite TV show: House
Favorite music: Pop

Hunter Reed – Holy Family University (Lacrosse)
Major:
Accounting
Final list of colleges: Holy Family, Muhlenberg
Reasons for choosing Holy Family: “Financially it was the stable choice. Also, my mother went there, so it was a no-brainer, and they gave me a very nice athletic and academic scholarship. The team felt like a good fit.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “Freshman year of high school I started thinking about it, and I knew I could do it junior year.”
Coach Matt Coverdale: “Hunter Reed is an incredibly smart competitor and incredible character of a young man. He’s an Eagle Scout, he was a captain this year – a leader of the team, and he had a very high athletic ceiling. He was very rangy, he was a shutdown defender for us, and he was a complete asset to not only keeping the team together as the year went on but also leading our defense.”
About Hunter:
Favorite food:
Chicken Parm
Favorite TV show: Top Gear
Favorite music: 1970’s

James Rutenberg – Arcadia University (Lacrosse)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges: Arcadia, Eastern, Widener
Reasons for choosing Arcadia: “Arcadia was the choice when I got to stay there overnight with some of the guys. They made me feel welcome. It felt like home, for sure. It was a good lacrosse program too, and it all balanced out in the end.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I don’t think I really started thinking about it until I got to high school. It wasn’t really in my mind until freshman year – I came in and was like, ‘Okay, maybe this is something I want to do later on in life.’”
Coach Matt Coverdale: “James also was a captain. James is selfless, he’s versatile, he’s a two-way middie and was willing to do anything we needed him to do for the team. He’s tough as nails and adaptable to the different roles we asked him to play. He has an incredible shot on offense, and he’s physically tough on defense. He was the vocal leader for the team in the huddle a lot of times this year.”

Favorite movies: Maze Runner series or Harry Potter
Favorite song/artist: “One of These Nights” by the Eagles
