Jacq Fitzgerald – Amherst College (Lacrosse)
Major: Undecided but something in the humanities
Final list of colleges: Amherst, Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard
Reasons for choosing Amherst: “Essentially, I looked at all the schools I wanted to go to academically, and I chose about five or six schools. It just came down to which school I could play lacrosse at.”
What was the progression that led you to playing lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I have always liked playing sports. I played field hockey and lacrosse for West, and since ninth grade, I’ve wanted to be able to use lacrosse to be able to get into a good school if I could. That’s my extra curricular – it is lacrosse. I’ve known throughout high school that I’ve wanted to play in college.”
Coach Tara Schmucker says: “Jacq has played midfield, and in terms of focus, one of her focal points is always on defense. She marked some of the best players on the other team for us, but she’ll come out and be the second leading goal scorer for us as well. She brought a lot to our team on both ends of the field.”
About Jacq:
Favorite food: Chick Peas & Apples
Favorite movie: The Da Vinci Code
Favorite music: Alternative
Meghan Tillger – Kean University (Lacrosse)
Major: Physical Therapy
Final list of colleges: Kean, Pace
Reasons for choosing Kean: “I picked Kean because when I visited the coach was really nice, and I liked the way she coached. She played at a D-1 school, and she said she was going to treat our program like a D-1 program even though it’s D-3, so she’s going to make us work as hard as we possibly can. I liked that about the program.”
What was the progression that led you to playing lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing since second grade, and it’s been like a lifestyle for me, so I never really wanted to stop. Once I hit high school, it was a decision between basketball and lacrosse, and I picked lacrosse because it’s something I’ve been doing my entire life.”
Coach Tara Schmucker says: “Meghan played attack for us. She was one of our leading assisters and is always looking to set up her teammates. She can also be a threat to cage, and just her ability to set her teammates up and make them look better is probably her biggest asset. She was also at the top on draw controls as well, and with her height and physicality, she was a great player on the draw for us.”
About Meghan:
Favorite food: Pineapples
Favorite movie: Scary movies/Nightmare on Elm Street
Favorite music: Pop
Elle Ueland – Rollins College (Lacrosse)
Major: Marine Biology
Final list of colleges: Rollins, University of Tampa
Reasons for choosing Rollins: “I definitely wanted to be in Florida, so that was the first step and then finding a lacrosse program and marine biology – which I want to study - together. I visited both of the schools, and I really liked Rollins because the coach’s philosophy is amazing. He’s just awesome, and the campus is beautiful, the team is awesome. It just all added up really nice and all worked out perfectly.”
What was the progression that led you to play lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing lacrosse since second grade, and my older sister went to Lafayette College to play. When I hit high school, I was like – this is reality now. I have to start thinking where I want to go, what division I want to play, what kind of coach I want.”
Coach Tara Schmucker says: “Elle played attack for us. She has been one of our most poised players on attack. She’s a great listener and executes plays really well. It’s nice to have someone who has that patience on the attack, especially when you have younger girls in the mix and they start to get a little scattered or anxious. She’s been a great leader for us on the attack.”
About Elle:
Favorite food: Spaghetti & Meatballs
Favorite movie: Guardians of the Galaxy
Favorite music: Pink
