CB West's Calista Boos to Play Field Hockey at Wake Forest

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, Central Bucks West senior Calista Boos was recognized for committing to continue her field hockey career at Wake Forest University.

Calista Boos – Wake Forest University (Field Hockey)

Major: Health/Exercise Science

Final list of colleges: Wake Forest, Duke, Northwestern, Iowa, St. Joseph’s

Reasons for choosing Wake Forest: “I just really fell in love with the campus when I went on my official visit. Along with the team and the coaches – they were so nice and welcoming, I just felt really wanted there. It just really felt like the right fit for me.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it my freshman year. I was really serious about field hockey, and I really wanted to consider playing D1 in college. June 15 going into my junior year is when coaches can first contact you. The whole summer was recruiting calls and visits, and then I committed that September of my junior year. It was kind of a stressful time, but it was worth it.”

Coach Lori Ierubino says: “First and foremost, Calista is dedicated, she’s tenacious, and she’s a club player that plays hockey all year.  She has fast hands, she’s just a smart student of the game, and she’s been with our program four years. She started as a freshman, and this was her fourth year with the program, so to have someone that’s been through the process of getting to playoffs, working through the season - some seasons you have those losses that ‘Oh my gosh, what just happened?’ And then bouncing back and rallying and coming back against a lot of our sister schools that we played twice a year. She had that leadership quality of just being there, grinding through preseason and postseason and just being a positive impact player for our team, and that’s something we’re definitely going to miss next year with Cal.
“She’s more of a quiet leader – not that she’s quiet, but she’s more action than words. She just came and worked and set a fast pace at practice, and that challenges everybody else when you’re at practice just to rise that level of competition within our own team. Then when we play an opponent, it’s more fun because now we’re not competing against each other like we do at practice. Now we’re working together to beat a common opponent. “When she got hurt last fall – we’re a smaller squad, and that put a strain on different positions and moving people around. I think ultimately that got us far in the postseason because she was still a part of the team but in a very different role, and other people had to rise and fill her shoes, which was hard. Knowing we were going to get her back was always this – ‘Let’s keep going because one more week she’s back and then our team is back to its full strength,’ which was exciting. We’re definitely going to miss Cal. She’s going to do great things at Wake Forest. I’m excited to see that next chapter in her life, the next jump going from high school to college.
