On Thursday, May 19, 2022, Central Bucks West senior Carl DiGiorgio will continue his wrestling career at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
Carl DiGiorgio – United States Coast Guard Academy (Wrestling)
Major: Management
Final list of colleges: Coast Guard Academy, Naval Academy, West Point, Air Force
Reasons for choosing the Coast Guard Academy: “For me, just the branch as a whole was a much more humanitarian focus, and to me, that really set it apart from the other academies. I was obviously looking at a bunch of other academies, and that’s what set it apart for me.”
What was the progression that led you to wrestling at the collegiate level? “I wasn’t really ever that good until my sophomore year when I think the switch kind of flipped, and then things started lining up and getting together.”
Coach Steve Romesburg says: “Carl DiGiorgio was a leader, and he showed leadership early on, more through his actions and what he did in the wrestling room with his work ethic. He had an outstanding work ethic. He honed his skills by doing some of the extra work that has to be involved in the sport of wrestling. He competed with some clubs, and he learned and improved each year, and that’s what this sport is all about. He developed his strength in the weight room, and he just did all the right things he needed to do. His teammates looked up to him. He was an Eagle Scout coming in, so we knew he had a lot of those qualities that his teammates would look up to. I’m glad he attained and accomplished at the highest level, making it to states three out of his four years. It was a growing process for him. He matured along the way, and I was glad to be part of those four years seeing that maturity. I believe he’s going to be very successful at the Coast Guard Academy. Obviously, they saw the same qualities. He’s good be around, he’s a good person – he’s honest, he’s funny, he’s got another side to him a lot of people don’t know. He works hard at his academics as well as his athletics, so putting all those together, he’s going to have an outstanding future, and we’re very proud of what he’s accomplished.”
