Kelsey Horst – Siena College (Soccer)
Major: Political Science/Education
Final list of colleges: Siena, St. Joe’s, Temple, Mount St. Mary’s
Reasons for choosing Siena: “I went on a visit, and I loved the team. They all seemed really nice, and I clicked with them. The campus is absolutely amazing. They have a lot of things I’m interested academic-wise. I just fell in love with it the first time I visited, and I wanted to go there.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer? “Me and my sister played our whole lives, and we both loved playing against each other and with each other. She’s playing at St. Joe’s, and when she decided she wanted to play in college and after seeing her collegiate level games, I decided that I wanted to (do it) too because it’s such a big part of both of our lives. Taking it to the next level just seems right.”
Coach Jorge Rodriquez says: “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Kelsey in club since she was 11, so I have a long history with Kelsey. The first thing that stood out about her was her speed. She was always the fastest player on the field. I’ve seen a girl like Natalia Pinkney who played at Pennridge and was lights out, but Kelsey was just as explosive. What makes her special was that she’s the total package. She’s not just physically gifted, but she’s an incredible kid. She comes from a good family. She’s been very, very humble – almost too humble, and she’s just been an incredible pleasure to have around for as long as I’ve known her.”
