Maddie Burke – Penn State University (Basketball)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Penn State, Maryland, Florida, Boston College, Villanova

Reasons for choosing Penn State:  “I chose Penn State because I felt at home, and as soon as I stepped on campus and met the new coaches, I just felt it was the right place for me.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level?  “The recruiting process started in late middle school. I just talked to coaches, looked at different programs. I changed my mind a billion times, and I decided on Penn State.”

Coach Zach Sibel says:  “Maddie is one of those people that’s just a natural leader. She makes everybody around her better. Her drive and her commitment raise the level of energy and commitment of the other girls as well. Other girls see what she does, and it boosts their confidence. To have a player like that to calm a locker room allows you to do some more things. She puts in the work, she puts in the hours. Other people want to get better because of her.

“They should paint a picture of her shot and send it to every youth girls’ basketball player and say, ‘This is what you’re looking for.’ It’s a shot you see in the NBA – the form is incredible, and you don’t see that across the board in girls’ basketball. To have a player with that type of fundamentals is good because it shows what you have to do to be a great player like she is.”
