Taylor Moyer – St. Peter’s University (Soccer)

Major:  Early Childhood Education

Final list of colleges:  St. Peter’s, Monmouth, East Stroudsburg

Reasons for choosing St. Peter’s: “It’s right outside New York City, so the location, and it’s close enough to home that I can get home quickly. Also, the coaches – I love the coaches.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level?  “Actually, my freshman and sophomore year, I didn’t really want to play in college, but then junior and senior year I realized I wanted to. I started liking it more.”

Coach Mike Moyer says: “When teams see Taylor, they want to stop her from scoring, which is always tough. On set pieces, she can hit a ball wherever we need her to, whether it’s a corner kick, whether it’s a free kick, whether it’s a kick from 50 yards out or even 60 yards out. There’s a reason she averaged 16 assists a year because she can put balls where you need them to be put, and we practice set pieces all the time. We score a lot off set pieces, and the thing I’m going to miss the most is her being able to serve a ball on set pieces. I’m sure at some point I’m going to miss the goals, and I’m going to miss the leadership, but for the last four years, I haven’t had anyone else take any of the set pieces, so that’s going to be a big gap. I need to find another player that does what she does.

“Taylor was more of a quiet leader. When she talked, which wasn’t a lot, people listened. The way she carried herself at practices and just the amount of effort she put in at practice and in the offseason, it inspired girls to be there with her. She passed the torch down to Courtney (Moylan), and even when we’re doing winter workouts, Courtney is there every single time because it’s important for these young girls to see that. Taylor learned from the captains before her. It’s just the whole culture that we’re trying to bring to West. Being the coach’s daughter sometimes, people might think she gets away with stuff or has a little bit of leeway here and there. That’s anything but the truth. I was just super proud that she carried herself in just a really professional way with all the other girls on the team.”
