On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, Central Bucks West senior Gavin Pacitti was recognized for committing to continue his diving career at Colgate University.

Reasons for choosing Colgate: “On my official, I really just loved the vibe. I loved the rigor Colgate brings while also having a warm and athletic atmosphere. Everyone is really supportive of each other. It was the school I felt most comfortable with.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in diving at the collegiate level? “I was a gymnast from the age of three until sophomore year. I’ve only been diving for a year-and-a-half, but I was a
Level 10 gymnast, so converting between the two, it was a pretty nice transfer. Last October, I wasn’t even sure I wanted to dive in college, but then coaches started to reach out to me, and I was like – ‘Maybe I actually can.’ It wasn’t until April when I was like – ‘All right, I want to go to Colgate.’”
Coach Fred Dunn says: “Gavin was a gymnast most of his life, reaching level 10 which is the highest, but he decided about a year ago to concentrate on diving, and from that point on, he has gotten better very quickly. I believe he would have easily been a state qualifier had he not broken his foot three weeks before districts, but this year we’re going to go for it. He’s an exceptional talent, and his best years are definitely in front of him. Gymnasts and divers - the similarity between us is we’re the same kind of athlete. We don’t generate our power the same way, so a lot of gymnasts who want to convert to diving are unsuccessful. Gavin is figuring it out, and it he gets it all the way, he’s going to be really good. We’re pulling for him.”
