Carson Snyder – Moravian College (Soccer)
Major: Business Administration or Economics
Final list of colleges: Moravian, York, Scranton
Reasons for choosing Moravian: “When I was deciding, I just went up for some visits, and it just felt like the perfect fit for me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I always knew I wanted to play soccer, and I just started contacting coaches.”
Coach Stefan Szygiel says: “Carson is your soccer junkie through and through. Carson and Reed were two kids – it took them until their senior year to realize with how grueling the high school schedule is, you need to just pull yourself back at training a little bit, get a couple of reps in and save yourself for game day. These are guys that if you roll a ball out they’re going to keep playing until you tell them to stop, and even if you tell them to stop, they’re probably going to keep going. Carson ended up being such a great leader for us his senior year. He ended up being a backbone of our midfield and was a true two-way player – defensive side of the ball, offensive side of the ball, transition – all things that hopefully our younger kids are picking up on. This is what you need to be able to do to be a successful midfielder in this league. I’m really happy that he’s going to be continuing his career at Moravian. I think they’re getting a great player. I played Division III, and I’m happy to see him go that path. I think he’ll make an impact immediately as a freshman but definitely a guy that we’re going to reference in years to come – this is what it takes, can you be a Carson Snyder in the midfielder.”

Reed Sturza - University of Vermont (Soccer)
Major: Computer Science
Final list of colleges: Vermont, Navy, Elon, Furman
Reasons for choosing Vermont: “I picked Vermont because it had my major. They put in a new engineering building, and it’s a good D-1 soccer program. Some guys got drafted there before, and they seemed to love playing at Vermont.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I’ve always wanted to play soccer in college. It’s one of the things I always wanted to do. I started contacting schools sophomore year, and I knew I was going to play D-1. I just wanted to go to the best school I could academically and soccer-wise.”
Coach Stefan Szygiel says: “Reed was the other half of that partnership. For the past several years, two of the first names on the team sheet have been Carson Snyder and Reed Sturza because we know they’re going to play center mid for us, we know they’re going to play every single minute of every single game. They have to do so much heavy lifting in there. We’ve had security for a few years with these guys, and Reed was a huge part of that. He was a two-way midfielder in the middle of the field for us. He brings fire and passion to the game, something that when it’s worked with the right way is a really, really great attribute for a player to have, and I think it’s going to serve him really well at the next level playing for the University of Vermont. Both of these guys – goals, assists, key plays, key moments – so many memories I can’t run through them all. It would take hours to go through the footage of what these guys did for us in the middle of the field. Looking at it now in the offseason, trying to replace a Reed Sturza is going to be extremely difficult. Trying to replace a Carson Snyder, trying to replace a Luke Fehrman – these are going to be difficult things for us, but the good news is I think all of them have left a lasting impression that this is what you need to do to be successful with this program, and if you do these things, the coaching staff will be in your corner, and hopefully, for some of these younger guys, they’ll be here on signing day, signing for the next step in their soccer careers or, for someone like Luke, their athletic career.”
