Amrit Ahluwalia – Dartmouth College (Field Hockey)
Major:
Economics
Final list of colleges:  Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Vassar, Swarthmore, Lehigh
Reasons for choosing Dartmouth:  “I’ve been to a lot of campuses, and I was never the kind of person that said, ‘Oh, I want a city school,’ or ‘I definitely want this size.’ I realize playing Division One hockey you have to spend a significant amount of time with the coach and the team, and immediately, right off the bat, I felt the most comfortable with the coach and the girls. I absolutely loved all of them as well as the campus – it’s beautiful. Dartmouth has the D-Plan, which is really, really interesting. It’s like a term system, and I really like their approach to academics and how important they think internships and foreign studies and studying abroad is. I like the mix of athletics and academics I could get at Dartmouth.”
What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I want to keep playing – I realized that in seventh or eighth grade. In eight grade, I started playing club hockey, and from there, I realized the steps it took because you could look up to the seniors who were going to the showcases, going to all the clinics. You meet a lot of different coaches, and they start giving you encouragement, saying, ‘This is what you have to do. This is what I like, and this is what you have to improve.’ From there, I realized I wanted to play.”
Coach Heather Whalin says:  “Amrit will not stop. She pushes herself – she doesn’t need motivation from anyone but herself. She played hurt pretty much the entire season, and that was for the love of the team and not for herself because she was already settled on a college and didn’t have to prove anything.
Amrit picked the perfect school – her academics along with her tenacity is going to be a great asset to Dartmouth. I see her having a really strong career there. I believe they definitely got a strong back who can play anywhere for them, and I believe she will break into their lineup quite early because of her skill set.”

Theresa Delahanty – Lafayette College (Field Hockey)
Major:
Undecided but something in the Sciences
Final list of colleges:  Lafayette, Delaware, Villanova
Reasons for choosing Lafayette:  “I went on a visit in the spring (of my junior year) – I got a tour of the campus, and I sat in on a class. The campus was beautiful, and it was the perfect size. The class sizes were also really nice – it’s a pretty small school, so the classes are really personalized, and that’s something that would benefit me the most as a student. I thought it would be the best fit.”
What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I started thinking about it my sophomore year. My dad brought it up to me because my club does tournaments in Florida and in Disney that are college showcases. He asked me if I wanted to play in college, and if I did, I needed to start making a list, e-mailing coaches and narrowing it down.”

Coach Heather Whalin says:  “Theresa was an excellent leader this year. She’s quiet, but she definitely leads by example. Theresa and Amrit were definitely our two strongest defenders along with Jules (Singer), our goalie. It’s going to be impossible replace her back on defense.
“I love that she’s going to Lafayette. We go there for our team camp, and (coach) Jen Stone is really looking forward to having Theresa there.”
