Council Rock North senior Hunter Wan has committed to continue his basketball career at Grove City College:
Hunter S. Wan – Grove City College (Basketball)
Major: Biology/Pre-Medicine
Final list of colleges: Grove City, Elizabethtown, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Temple
Reasons for choosing Grove City: “Best fit academically and athletically. Grove City is an affiliate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine where I also received provisional acceptance. I hope to bridge my passion for athletics with medicine so that I may become a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “I always thought about playing college basketball since I started in fourth grade. When I was younger, my family moved around, which gave me exposure to playing against teams throughout Europe when we lived in Belgium. For travel teams, we literally played against schools from Germany, Luxembourg, and Holland. I started playing AAU in eighth grade when we lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where both my parents went to college. For high school, we moved back to PA where I played AAU for YSU Elite and WeR1. My recruiting process started in 10th grade while playing in AAU tournaments and attending college camps.”
Coach Jesse Krasna says: “When Hunter moved to Newtown from Saint Louis as an incoming freshman, he was a decent shooter who was very left hand dominant. Fast forward a few years later, he transformed himself into a complete player - a multidimensional offensive threat and a formidable on ball defender.
“What always impressed me about Hunter was his approach during practice. He never took a rep off. Hunter always reported to tryouts in tip-top physical shape and displayed incredible mental toughness during our fitness testing. He is the kind of player that will make Grove City a better program because of his work ethic, passion for the game and high character. I am going to miss coaching Hunter but am excited for his future as a Wolverine.”
