Vinnie Colón – La Salle University (Soccer)
Major: Computer Science
Final list of colleges: LaSalle University, St. John’s University, Lehigh University
Reasons for choosing La Salle: “I loved the atmosphere of the college and the coaches. It seemed like a family, which I loved. Also, I love the city feel you get and how close to center city Philadelphia it is.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “As a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed the sport and spent all my time playing it. As I got older, I began to understand that I wanted to play for as long as I could at a high level, so I began to practice all the time, whether it was with my club or high school team, alone, or with friends. This led to multiple ID camps and communicating with various different universities to find the right fit for me. Eventually, I was fortunate enough to find myself talking with La Salle University.”
Coach Joe Stackhouse says: “He’s an excellent kid, a hardworking kid. He was a sophomore and played on the team that made the state run. He’s silky - the ball is glued to his foot. He has a great skill set, and at times, he had to change his game to make it right for the whole 11, which sometimes was hard for him to understand. He’s a big kid, so besides having the speed and the ability, he’s also a strong kid. He’s an excellent student, and he’s such a nice kid from a great family. I think La Salle’s a very good fit for him. They’re getting a diamond in the rough.”
