Dawson David Fresses – Ursinus College (Football)
Major: Biology
Final list of colleges: Ursinus, Moravian, Alvernia
Reasons for choosing Ursinus: “Academics, football team and social life.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing football since I could walk. It’s always been my dream to play in college. My recruiting process started junior year when I reached out to some coaches.”
Assistant head coach Tony Checchia says: “As a junior, Dawson, like Shemar (Mills) and Jason (Shragher), was a huge part of that team that was really successful and had a winning record, made the playoffs and had some really nice wins along the way. All three of them are friends beyond football, but Dawson, especially, and Shemar were ultra competitive with each other in the weight room. Dawson took pride in the fact that he was a lot smaller than Shemar, but they were getting after it and competing.
“Dawson isn’t the biggest guy in the world, but he’s a strong, thick, solid kid. He’s always solid. As a junior, he was a guy that rotated, played here and there. Senior year we expanded that role. He was nicked up during the season with different injuries, which always makes it a challenge, but he’s a competitor through and through. He’s a kid that football-wise wants to learn the game and wants to absorb the game. A school like Ursinus has high academic standards. You play at that level, and it’s not just about football. It’s about the whole student, academics as well. I think that will serve him well at Ursinus.”
