On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Council Rock South senior Katie Rodman was recognized for committing to continue her volleyball career at Montclair State University.

Major: Psychology with a minor in Spanish
Final list of colleges: Montclair, Stevenson University, Marymount, Stockton
Reasons for choosing Montclair: “Everything about it – I liked the size, location, the atmosphere and the competitiveness of the volleyball team. It just checked off everything I was looking for in a school.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in volleyball at the collegiate level? “I didn’t start thinking about playing volleyball in college until ninth or 10th grade. I always played soccer since I was little, and it took a while until I gave that up, but I decided I wanted to play volleyball.”
Coach Carrie Allen says: “The biggest thing with Katie is she’s a true competitor – she strikes me as the kind of person who’s probably competitive in everything she does. She was a really talented soccer player before she picked up volleyball and ultimately chose to do volleyball instead because I think she just enjoyed the sport more. I think she was competitive academically in school as well. She’s just truly someone who wants to compete and do well and has been successful so far with that drive.”
“Katie played soccer her freshman year, and she didn’t come out for volleyball until her sophomore year. She jumped right in and saw significant time her sophomore year being a DS. We had another libero at the time who had been a starter for her entire varsity career to that point. Katie was a defensive specialist and took over the libero role when she graduated. She definitely was a leader too – she was our leader in the backcourt 100 percent. She’s someone who kept the team on track in terms of making sure people were on top of it during drills and doing what they were supposed to do. She was good at holding everyone accountable because she wanted to perform and do well.”
