“Coming into next year, you can’t replace players like Grace and Helen, but I don’t expect any girl coming in to replace any player because they’re going to be their own player,” South coach Scott Molle said. “Those two spots are going to be really hard to fill. On top of their softball talent, their leadership skills were just second to none. The girls took what they said and ran with it. I had underclassmen that were on the bench who’ve come to me and told me they’ve learned so much from those two that it’s going to benefit them moving forward with their softball. That’s so good to hear when your underclassmen have learned from them. They left their mark at South, that’s for sure.”

Grace Stepp – University of Massachusetts Lowell (Softball)
Coach Scott Molle says:  “Grace was just one of my favorite people – the way she just commanded the field. She was just a special person and helped me get my first year under my belt. She’s going to be just a tremendous asset to the University of Massachusetts Lowell. They’re getting a special kid. She works, she never gives up, she has a high softball IQ. She’s just an amazing young lady that’s going to do such good things in this world, and it’s going to be fun to watch her.
“Grace was our catcher, and she picked eight people off bases this year. She’s got a cannon for an arm – it’s just unbelievable, and she always had the green light to throw whenever she wanted. Obviously, her eight putouts on pickoffs were the reason we gave her the green light. Grace also had the fourth highest batting average on our team. She could hit to get a run, and Grace could hit the long ball. She was just a true asset to have and an all-around player that just was so good.”

Helen Woloshyn – Lehigh University (Softball)
Coach Scott Molle says: “Helen is a coach’s dream for a leadoff hitter. I’ve been around softball over 20 years, and she’s 100 percent the best leadoff I’ve ever seen. She hit over .600, and she stole 35 bases and only got caught one time. We were able to get her on base, and before you knew it, she was on third base already with no outs. Helen is irreplaceable. She’s the type of player that’s super focused, gets the job done, reads the field. If she lays down a bunt, you can’t throw her out. I’ve never seen speed like that with anybody in my life. Lehigh is getting somebody good for four years, that’s for sure.
“Helen’s defense in the outfield is just elite status. She covers so much space, she’ll dive and get a ball, she’ll throw runners out at bases. She did it all season. When an opposing team would have a hit in the gap – they thought it was going to be a hit, and all of a sudden, there’s Helen catching the ball, and it looked routine. That’s what was crazy with Helen – she’d make balls that were hit in the gap look routine and look like they shouldn’t have been a hit because of her speed getting to it, but in any other game or with any other center fielder, that ball is down in the gap. Helen just takes the right angles, and with her speed, it’s hard to get a hit down on her.”
