Ricky Dennis – Monmouth University (Baseball)

Major:  Accounting

Final list of colleges:  Monmouth, St. Joseph’s, Old Dominion, Holy Cross, Navy, Wagner

Reasons for choosing Monmouth:  “I loved everything about the school. The coaches were great. It has a rich history of baseball. They’re very successful, and they know how to develop their pitchers. It’s a half mile away from the beach, and you can’t beat that.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate baseball?  “I have been pitching ever since about third or fourth grades when I started playing travel baseball. During the summer of my freshman year, I started getting letters and e-mails, and that’s when I realized I had a chance to pitch in college and that it was definitely a possibility. The summer after that I started playing for a team called the Philly Bandits, and that’s when the letters really started flowing in, and that’s when I knew it was going to happen.”

Coach Mike Schaefer says:  “Ricky Dennis is a kid that came in as a sophomore. You look at him, and he’s imposing. He’s a monster of a man. He had a 1.40 ERA as a sophomore and just was a pleasant surprise. Having him back last year with over 50 innings of experience was a big key for us. His signing at a good school and having him and some of our other pitchers back is a nice thing that will hopefully lead us to more success.”
