On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, Pennsbury senior Jess Greenewald was recognized for signing a letter of intent to play softball at Mount St. Mary’s College.

Reasons for choosing Mount St. Mary’s: “In the end, I just liked Mount St. Mary’s better. I knew when I stepped on the campus that I loved it. I loved the atmosphere with the coach and the team, and the campus is beautiful. It’s also a small school, which I liked.”
When did you start thinking about playing collegiate softball? “I knew when I was a freshman that I wanted to play in college. That’s when the process started for me, and I started e-mailing and contacting coaches.
“Last January, I made an early commitment to Mount St. Mary’s because when I visited the campus, I knew that’s where I wanted to go. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.”
Coach Frank McSherry says: “This will be Jess’s fourth year on varsity. She’s also a great teammate and pushes herself and her teammates every day. Second base was a new position for her. She was a third baseman, and she saw a little third base as a freshman for us, but we think the middle infield is so important, and she just fit the bill for us. She’s done a great job at second base. Mackenzie (Obert) and Jess - at shortstop and second base – compete against one another in a friendly way and a fun way to watch at practice every single day. They throw with each other every day, and even in practice, they test one another. You need to be tough up the middle, and they certainly have been tough up the middle for us. Offensively, Jess brings a lot of speed. She can slap, she can drive the ball, and she’s a good bat in the lineup.”
