Camryn Ryan – Drexel University (Lacrosse)

Major:  Business

Final list of schools:  Drexel, Lafayette, Monmouth, Old Dominion

Reasons for choosing Drexel:  “I just fell in love with the city. I’m excited to live there. I just love the atmosphere and the coaches.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “I picked up lacrosse in middle school, and it was the last sport I picked up. I fell in love with it. I just had a real passion for it, and I told my parents I wanted to play in college.”

Lacrosse coach Marie Schmucker says:  “I have had a great bond with Cam since sixth grade from teaching her in health and phys ed to having her in my advisory. Lacrosse was my last thought when she came to Keith Valley. She’ll tell you – I used to say to her, ‘Cam, did you ever think about playing lacrosse?’ She’d say, ‘No, coach.’ I said, ‘Cam, someday you’re going to go Division I in lacrosse.’ She would look at me – ‘I don’t think so.’ To have the opportunity to have taught her, coached her, the relationships with her parents, all her hard work, the dedication and time she has put in – her work ethic has a lot to do with her parents. She is resilient, and she is a hard worker. Her dedication is just incredible. When most kids are home or out working, I get a text seeing her shooting 500 shots on the football field. That is unbelievable. She played varsity all four years, but she never took anything for granted. She continued to work hard, and I always said to her, ‘Cam, your hard work will pay off. Don’t take it for granted.’ She’s just such a pleasure – she’s positive, she’s coachable. She’s off the charts. She’s A-plus, plus.”

Basketball coach Dennis Steinly says:  It's unfortunate that the school year ended the way it has and that the winter sports championships couldn't be completed and athletes missed the entire spring season. But, I'm happy Cam will get to play lacrosse again at Drexel, and I'm glad she was able to have success with soccer and basketball her senior year. She's the best three-sport athlete I've seen at Hatboro-Horsham. I look forward to following her career at Drexel.

Camryn has had a tremendous impact on HH during her four years. In addition to her success in athletics, she has been a positive influence in the school building - she is a member of the Student Council, volunteered with Special Olympics, and served as Red Team General for our school-wide ‘Red & Black’ Competition. With all the success she has had, she is one of the most humble students I've encountered. She is a great friend, a loyal teammate, and a gracious leader.”

Soccer coach Kelsey Daley says:  "Cam Ryan is the player that every coach wants to coach. She excels in everything that she does. She makes everyone around her a better team player and also a better person. The way she leads a team is remarkable. Cam was a standout soccer player for me for two seasons and I am going to miss her terribly. She led the 2019 Hatboro-Horsham girls soccer team to a Suburban One league Championship for the first time in 25 years. I am excited to see what her future holds and I know she will be very successful at Drexel."
