Ryan Cole – Moravian College (Soccer)
Major: Finance and Business
Final list of colleges: Moravian College, Elizabethtown College, and The Catholic University of America
Reasons for selecting Moravian: “I chose Moravian because I felt at home the first time I was on the campus. The small student-to-teacher ratio impressed me because I will be able to connect with my teachers and have my questions answered. I met Coach Wilkinson last year and wanted to be involved in his program right away. He is a great coach and has a great reputation. I also went to Moravian to watch a game and stayed overnight with one of the current players. After this experience, I knew this would be the perfect place for me and my academic/athletic needs.”
What was the progression that led you to playing soccer at the collegiate level? “My dream has always been to play soccer at the collegiate level. I was on the Ukrainian Nationals 2000 for most of high school before I left for the Warrington Union. We attended many college showcase tournaments, and I think this gave me much exposure to college coaches. I was able to start talking to coaches after they watched my games and it was a great experience. I also attended many ID clinics for more exposure. After I attended the Moravian ID camp, I knew that this was the place for me and the coaches and players made me feel at home.”
Coach Kyle McGrath says: “Ryan came in as a freshman and made an impact right away as a starter at outside midfield. He continued to improve over the course of his four years, and during his junior and senior seasons, he was a major part of our success on the field. He transitioned into our attacking midfield role and was a key contributor in 2017 when we won the league championship. This past year as a senior he was a quiet leader through his work ethic and play on the field. I have seen him mature so much over his time in our program, and I am looking forward to watching him play at Moravian in the fall. He has left his mark on our program and will be missed. I wish him the best of luck in the future.”
Andrew Hurrell – Widener University (Soccer)
Major: Biology/Physical Therapy program
Final list of colleges: Widener, Temple, Arcadia
Reasons for choosing Widener: “It offered a little bit of everything I wanted in a school. I get to play soccer, and it has my preferred major and program. Widener is also a small school but doesn’t have a small school feel.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it in eighth grade. Playing at the collegiate level was always a goal in the back of my mind. When I switched club teams to the Ukrainian Nationals, that is when the recruiting process started. This team allowed me better opportunities for exposure, and it really helped me kick off the recruiting process and reaching out to coaches.”
Coach Kyle McGrath says: “Andrew took a slightly different path during his high school career as he played on the freshman team and started on the JV team as a sophomore. He quickly was moved to varsity after three games and was a key contributor ever since. He scored the league championship clinching goal his junior year and was an important offensive piece this past season. Through his hard work and dedication he was named as a captain for his senior season. Andrew is the type of player that any coach wants in their program. He constantly was one of the hardest workers and always wants what is best for his team and teammates. Off the field, he excelled in the classroom and was respected by his peers. He has been a major part of our program and we will miss him as he heads off to what will be a successful career at Widener.”
