Hatboro-Horsham's Porter to Play Baseball at Monmouth

On Thursday, May 18, 2023, Hatboro-Horsham senior Trey Porter was recognized for committing to continue his baseball career at Monmouth University.

Trey Porter – Monmouth University (Baseball)

Major: Exercise Science

Final list of colleges:  Monmouth, Rutgers, Penn State, Elon

Reasons for choosing Monmouth: “It’s amazing – it’s beautiful down there. It’s right on the coast, and I just loved how close it was to home. I can come home pretty much any weekend I need to. The coaches and player are just amazing. It feels like a family.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “When I was growing up, I played basketball too, and when I was younger, I thought that was what I wanted to do and my favorite sport. Then I started to play baseball more, and I realized – this is what I want to do, so I quit basketball coming into high school and I just focused straight on baseball.”

Coach Pete Moore says: “Trey is the most talented baseball player that I coached in my 22 years at HH. He is a true five-tool player who puts in the work on his own, in addition to attending everything we do, to ensure he is giving himself the best chance to be successful.
“He can hit for power, he hits for a high average, he can fly and has great instincts on the bases. He covers a ton of ground in the outfield and has a cannon for a right arm.
“Off the field, Trey is just an outstanding person. He is basically my nephew, as his dad and I are very close friends. I have known him since the day he was born, taught him in fifth grade, got to coach him for four years, and now we play together in the Perky League. I am proud of him for many reasons, but I am most proud of him for how he treats other people. My three kids look up to Trey, and he always goes out of his way to be kind to them. Through the Big 26, he made a connection with a girl with special needs, and he has stayed in contact with her ever since and even drove out a couple hours with his mom to watch her play in a Challenger League game this spring. Trey is going to have a great college career, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we are watching him play on TV one day.”
