Chris Crookham – East Stroudsburg University (Baseball)
Major: Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: East Stroudsburg, West Virginia, VCU
Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “Their exercise science program, and my brother goes there, so it will be a nice fit to play with him.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate baseball? “Since I was a little boy, I loved baseball, and I had always thought about it. This past summer was a big summer. I went to a lot of showcases, and I performed well. Teams started to show interest.”
Coach Pete Moore says: “He played shortstop for us, and the consistency he has in the field defensively goes above and beyond what you see from most high school guys. He’s the guy you want the ball hit to. He has great arm strength, and his hands are quick turning the double play. Offensively, he’s an asset on the bases because of his speed. He was seven-for-seven in stolen bases, and he continues to improve as a hitter. He’s getting a little bit stronger, so he’s developing more pop in his bat.
“This year he’s going to have a chance to get on the mound and help us on the mound as a pitcher a little bit, which he hasn’t done in the past. I know he did that well for his summer team, and it opened up some eyes for college coaches.”
