Alexis Hofstaedter – College of William and Mary (Basketball)

Major:  Elementary Education

Final list of colleges:  William and Mary, West Point, Sacred Heart

Reasons for choosing William and Mary:  “Just when I was down there – it’s a beautiful town, and I knew when I stepped onto the campus the first time that it was the right place for me.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “At first my dad forced me into the sport because it was a sport he loved. He started my brothers out with it, but I guess they really didn’t love it as much. I just fell in love with it. By the time I was in sixth grade playing AAU for Mr. Hilf, I knew it could take me somewhere, and I was going to work hard to get a college scholarship.”

Council Rock South coach Monica Stolic says:  “She came to my basketball camp when she was in eighth grade. Right then and there, I said, ‘You’re coming to South, right?’ Just her ability to see the floor and shoot the ball, and for an eighth grader, she was so strong and consistently hitting three-pointers. She started every game for us since she came into Council Rock, plus she’s a great kid. She’s very unselfish. She looks to pass the ball first – which is what a good point guard does. She’s worked very hard for this, and I’m so happy for her because she put in a lot of time – shooting instructor, AAU. This is 12 months of the year for her, and she loves the game.”

Philadelphia Belles AAU coach Lou Hilf says:  “Alexis played the last two years for me on the Philadelphia Belles Nike team. We traveled all over the country, and she was my number one point guard. She sees the court really well, she’s a great passer, and one of the most important things that I think she does is she makes other players around her better players. For a coach, that’s really important. She’s a great teammate, and more importantly, she’s a great kid.
“Alexis has been with me for about five years with the Philadelphia Belles, but I’ve known her since she was in seventh grade. She has improved every year, and she’s a hard worker. She’s a gym rat, and one thing she really aspires to is that she doesn’t fear failure. When kids don’t fear failure, they will get better. She works on things in practice that she’s not good at, and we want kids that aren’t afraid of making mistakes because if you make mistakes that’s how you get better. She’s always been there for us as a teammate, and she’s just one of those kids that’s a pleasure to coach.”
