Major: Undecided but leaning toward Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: Buffalo, Drexel, University of Pittsburgh
Reasons for choosing Buffalo: “I really liked the team and the coaches. I got along well with the team and thought it would be the best fit. I’m really not a cold weather person, but I feel like I could deal with it because I like the people there a lot. The weather took a backseat to all the other reasons.”
What was the progression that led you to swimming collegiately? “I knew I wanted to swim when I was a freshman in high school. That was just my goal. I used to play more basketball, but in high school, I transitioned into a fulltime swimmer, and it was something I really enjoyed. I made it my goal to swim at a D-1 college.”
Coach Geoff Scheuer says: “He is by far the most committed swimmer we have ever had. He started swimming kind of late. He started when he was 11 or 12, and he’s missed maybe five practices since then. He’s pretty versatile. Right now he’s a mid-distance freestyler, sprint odd stroker. He’s good at backstroke, butterfly. He’s good at a lot of stuff.”
Aquatic director Kate Scheuer says: “His strength is he wants to get in and do work. There’s never a day he asks to take it easy or back off or have a recovery day. He wants to go hard every day, every practice, all practice. One of the best things about Eric is that when he walks on deck, he just wants to be there. It’s just a great attitude to have in any athlete. Their want and desire to be there just makes coaching them that much easier and that much better. It’s just a great experience.”
