Major: Undecided

Final list of colleges:  JMU, University of Richmond, Temple University, Lafayette College

Reasons for choosing JMU:   “I chose James Madison University because of the beautiful campus, strong academics, and sports-oriented atmosphere. I love the culture that Coach (Christy) Morgan creates amongst the team as well as the speed and style of play. I believe that JMU contains the resources that will allow me to not only grow as a field hockey player, but also as a person. My oldest sister, Corey, was a part of the team and was completely bought into the culture of the school and team, which made me want to be a Duke that much more.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I started playing with Mystx Field Hockey Club in second grade, already having the love for the sport instilled in me from a young age. My mother being a collegiate field hockey player and coach, as well as my two older sisters who played, I grew up with the sport. I watched my older sisters go through the recruiting process, noticing the differences between each team and styles of play. I seriously began to think about playing at the collegiate level the summer going into my sophomore year. I went to multiple recruiting tournaments, college clinics, and spent most of my time training and watching film. Since my oldest sister attended JMU and was a part of the team, the culture that she was learning from Coach Morgan slowly infiltrated my mind and expectations of what I was looking for in a school.

“At first, I stayed away from JMU, trying to set my own path and stray away from my oldest sister. However, I found myself looking for qualities from the JMU team in other schools and could not find a school that compared in my mind. The summer going into my junior year, I attended a three-day overnight camp at JMU and finally felt at home. The girls on the team instantly made me feel like I was already on the team and took the time to help me with skills and calm my nerves. After several phone calls with Coach Morgan, I verbally committed in the beginning of September during my junior year. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play for Coach Morgan and am excited to get on campus as soon as possible!”

Coach Shawn Mayer says:  Taryn has had an outstanding career at Lower Moreland. She was lucky enough as a freshman to play with her older sister, Jamie, who was a senior. Jamie played center mid and Taryn played center forward. It was a successful combination. LM had made it to States for the first time ever and it was a great ride.

“Taryn has been a three-year captain. She’s a student of the game. Film, going to the turf by herself, club ball - she has worked hard to figure out what she wants as she has matured. She’s been our high scorer for three seasons. She holds freshman, sophomore and junior season scoring records. She also holds the single season scoring record and program scoring record, which exceeds 100 goals. She’s a three-time BAL All-League honoree, and this season, as our first in the SOL, was awarded a First Team and an All-Area First Team Selection.”
