Taylor Matsinger – Temple University (Soccer)

Major:  Kinesiology

Final list of colleges:  Temple, Northeastern, Washington University (St. Louis), Elon

Reasons for choosing Temple:  “It was actually interesting because originally I wasn’t looking at Temple, and the coach contacted me. I went down to the school, and I liked it a lot. I was deciding between a few schools, but I was really praying about it a lot to see where God wanted me to go. That was definitely the deciding factor in going to Temple. I loved the coaches, I loved the team and the university, but what really did it for me was knowing that Temple was where God wanted me. I felt led to be at Temple.
“Originally, I thought I wanted to go to a new area. Temple being really close – I wasn’t really sure about that, but going down into the city, it’s such a different experience. It is nice to know my parents are an hour away if I should need them.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer? “When I was very little, I was a girl who picked flowers on the soccer field, so there were no college hopes there. Towards the end of elementary school, I started getting serious about soccer. I always knew that I wanted to keep playing for as long as I could because I just love the game. The opportunity presented itself to play in college, and to be able to keep playing a sport I love and hopefully glorify God through that was just a dream come true.”

Highlight of your career at CB South:  “All the years, I’ve loved playing with all the girls. It’s been such an honor to be part of the legacy we’re building here at South. My senior year coming to a close with all the girls that I’ve played with for four years – it was just a great season. No one specific moment stands out to me but just the journey we took. We call it ‘the struggle’ because for four years we were working our butts off. It’s really nice to finish it out with them.”

Coach Joe Bocklet says:  “Taylor is smart and intelligent, and it showed on the field and in the classroom. She’s a hard worker who’s dedicated to improving. It was not unusual to see her working out in the gym with her father. She’s dedicated to the sport and her teammates.
“Taylor is a good, strong midfielder. Once she was in possession of the ball, it was tough for opponents to strip her of it. She did well to distribute from the midfield, and she was a very vocal leader on the field. She had a great shot from range. She did it all. When the girls become seniors, you want them to be good positive role models. She was that way all four years.”
