Maddie Mulhall – Shippensburg University (Softball)

Major:  Pre-Law

Final list of colleges:  Shippensburg, Union University, North Greenville University
Reasons for choosing Shippensburg:  “Up until about four months ago, I was going to a school down in Tennessee to play, but the money just didn’t come through. I went to Shippensburg, kind of a spur-of-the-moment showcase. I had a very good showing, and the coach was very interested in me. I met with him about three weeks ago, and last week was when I committed. I’m very excited to play there. He’s a great coach, the team is very successful, and it will be good to see what my part is there.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball?  “I’ve played on travel teams since sixth grade, and that’s always been the case when you play with these organizations, especially the ones I’ve played on – you weren’t there unless you were planning to play in college. That’s always been the dream. I started out as playing Division One, and I had the opportunity, but I just didn’t feel that was fitting for me. I wanted to be a student-athlete first, and I feel it’s very difficult to do that at that level.”

Coach Rich Scott says:  “Maddie started four years for the varsity, beginning as a freshman. She’s very dedicated, very hard working, and she’s a team leader. If you go to any softball field and see two people there, chances are Maddie is one of them. She loves the sport. She’s very dedicated to her schoolwork also. She’s going to do very well in school. I always knew she would play at the next level. It was just a matter of where, finding the right spot for her. I’m happy that she found that spot at Shippensburg. We haven’t played this season, but I’m looking forward to a great season. We’re going to have a very good team, and Maddie is a big part of that.”
