Taylor Gurysh – Kutztown University (Basketball)
Major: Business
Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “Once I went on my visit to Kutztown, I knew, and it was like, ‘This is where I want to be.’ The coaching staff and the players are so welcoming and nice. They have a winning culture – the softball team has done very well. How big the campus is, the campus life, the academics - just all of that made me want to go there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “I was looking at my sister (Kiley) as a role model. When she began her college process, I was like ‘Oh, this is pretty cool,’ and I wanted it for myself. Basketball happened to be my sport, so I pursued that. Once you start getting into it, the recruiting process is very hard. Especially with COVID, that made it a lot more tough. It was an eye-opening experience, but I’m happy. I want to play another four years. I don’t know what I’d do if I wasn’t. I’m excited.”
Coach John Gallagher says: “Taylor is a three-year captain. Academically, Taylor is in the top nine percent of her class. She never misses a workout, training session or practice. We’ll still utilize her in a post spot and in the point guard spot to relieve Lola (Ibarrondo) at times. She has grown in regard to stepping outside beyond the three-point line. I think her sophomore year that was a weakness. Her junior year it started coming around, and what I’ve been watching in the past open gyms and practices – her three-point shot has really grown, and it’s because of the amount of time she’s put in there.”
