Emily Siwek – Holy Family University (Softball)

Major:  Early Childhood Education

Final list of colleges:  Holy Family, Immaculata, Hood

Reasons for choosing Holy Family:  “I chose Holy Family because the size of the school was perfect for me, the education program is really good, and I loved the environment of the school.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “My family and coaches made me develop a love for the sport, so I knew that I wanted to play in college. I like to compete and make new friendships. I knew I wanted to play in college when I watched my first college game on TV. The recruiting process started in ninth grade, and I went to camps and sent emails.”

Coach Ken Gurysh says:  “Emily is very easily overlooked because she is so small in size. She’s probably one of the smallest first basemen ever to step on the field, but she is really good. The thing that I remember about her when she was playing jayvee for me back a few years ago – she just could hit. The kid’s got a great swing, a very compact swing. She has a pretty small strike zone, so pitchers have to come to her a little bit. She certainly is not up there looking for walks. When she was looked at to start at first base last year, one of the things Chic (former coach Dave Chichilitti) said to some of the infielders, ‘What do you think about first base?’ They said, ‘If we can’t hit Emily, that’s on us.’ She’s got a great glove, and one of the things she does is she picks the ball out of the dirt. Anything she lacks in size she makes up for with her glove. She’s just a great kid. She’s funny, she’s quiet, but she always has a smile on her face. She’s got a great attitude, and she’s just a great kid to be around.”
