Phoebe Clowser – Illinois State University (Cross Country/Track & Field)

Major: Chemistry

Final list of colleges:  Illinois State, Iona, Toledo, Eastern Kentucky

Reasons for choosing Illinois State:  “I chose Illinois State it was the team that felt closest to home being so far away from home.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in cross country and track at the collegiate level?  “I chose to run in college because it’s such a big part of my life, and I do it every day. I kind of decided freshman year because that’s when I was really at my best, and I knew I could get better, and I can get better in college as well.”

Coach Jim Crawford Jr. says:  “Phoebe has competed at the highest level for high school athletes in Pennsylvania for all four of her years competing for North Penn. She has successfully represented North Penn at league championships, district championships and state championships in all three of her sports – cross country, winter track and spring track.
“Phoebe has competed for North Penn High School in the states of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and New York. In New York, she competed in the Manhattan College High School Invitational, which is the largest high school cross country meet in the nation with over 10,000 participants each year.
“In spring track, she has represented North Penn in the Penn Relays each year, and this past year she earned and competed with her 4x800 relay teammates in the Championship of America race with the 11 best relay teams from the eastern United States and Jamaica.
“When Phoebe graduates in June, she will hopefully have earned three North Penn letters in each of her four years of high school competition for a total of 12 letters out of 12 seasons. Illinois State University is very fortunate that Phoebe has selected their school from a host of colleges who were interested in having her compete for their school. Phoebe has the ability, desire, experience, work ethic and running knowledge to be successful at Illinois State.”
