Emily Crawford – University of Massachusetts (Field Hockey)
Major: Biology
Final list of colleges: UMass, Liberty, Georgetown, Northeastern
Reasons for choosing UMass: “I chose UMass because the campus is a good location, the team was very welcoming and the coaches are great.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “In middle school, I fell in love with the sport, and at club, I’ve played with some of the top kids in the country, and they have really pushed me to be better.”
Favorite high school sports memory: “My favorite memory was last year during Senior Night when I scored the game-winning goal with 1:30 left. It was just really good because some of my best friends were seniors, and they were so happy and all hugged me after the game.”
Coach Shannon McCracken says: “There was a lot of buzz about Emily coming up to the high school when she was a middle school player. She immediately made an impact. She was a four-year letter winner for us at the forward and mid position. She had 28 career goals and 25 career assists for us. She made an immediate impact because of her speed on the field. She’s a fast kid, she’s got great stickwork, and she loves the game, so she plays it as often as she can as much as she can, and she made our program better. Emily was third team all-conference her sophomore and junior year and second team all-conference this year. She was a captain for us, and she’s also a high achieving student academically. She does great in the classroom too, and she was a great role model for our younger student-athletes. The field hockey team is extremely proud of Emily.”
